"Take care of your body with steadfast fidelity"

Quote of the day:
Take care of your body with steadfast fidelity.
The soul must see things through these eyes alone,
And if they are dim, the whole world is clouded.
~Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Who teaches us how to take care of our bodies? Our doctors? Our teachers? Our parents? Our coaches? Our spiritual advisors (if we have them)?

Does anyone have someone like this in their life? Please share!

  1. I'm not sure who teaches me too, but it helps to have a partner (my husband) who at least reminds you to! I think we all need someone to remind us to take care of ourselves so we're not the last priority. Sometimes that might mean making you a strong drink when you need it (not traditionally healthy, but sometimes it helps!), or it might mean making it easier for you to go jogging.

  2. That is such a good point, Kim! You are so lucky to have a life partner who encourages this in you (and you in him). It's something that's hard to find and too easy to take for granted.

  3. I think diet is taught by example, like so many things in life. Introspection and awareness of how you treat all aspects of body care is a matter of "awakening", then choosing paths. There are so many things we have to change from what we were once taught because they are no longer accurate or relevant. We all have to form our own opinions, and make a choice to look after ourselves. Our choices and opinions are the markers of our growth. I so love the quotes that you choose to post.

  4. Hi fft! Yes I think you are right - we probably first come to ideas through introspection, our own internal awareness, our intuition. Then from there we seek out people to guide us (whether it be in yoga or diet or whatever else).

It seems to me that we ultimately have to be our own teacher. And we first have to learn how to listen to our own bodies in order to know how to best take care of it.

  5. Parents have a huge responsibility to set a good example.
Like fft, I dearly love that quote from Goethe. It is new to me.

  6. Yes, parents certainly set an example! The habits and tendencies we inherit from parents are heavily ingrained, even if we may not realize it. (A huge reason why parents need good doctors/teachers/coaches/mentors themselves!!!)
